She said, “I look at my students as being lab rats. I like to see how they comprehend information and experiment on ways to get them to learn better.” She has a passion for turning the classroom into a huge learning experiment to see what works and doesn’t work. “Science is really the best and greatest subject of them all. There is no subject that doesn’t involve science somehow.” As many people know, Christy “loves doing things outside and is a big science nerd.” One of her most interesting hobbies is her fascination with classifying fungus and North American mushrooms. With this comes a lot of research of fungus and collecting mushrooms, specifically spore prints. Christy is also a big Minecrafter and a lover of sci-fi.
Christy’s family plays a big role in her scientific life as well. She said, “We spend most of our time on youtube looking at experiments and the news, more than we do looking at vines.” Her sons, Casey, Gabe, and Owen, along with her husband, Matt, are all science nerds with her. They always see the scientific side of things and are always willing to learn more. From fire and chemical reactions, to learning how to better jump their bikes in the yard.
