Baneful Bigotry

Prejudice is one of the major elements of today’s American society. For decades there have been cases where the general public fuels the mass prejudice against people of color or different religions. Muslims in particular suffer this prejudice greatly. Most Muslims today are labeled as terrorists, because of only some Muslims who commit crimes, and don’t truly follow Islam. The media loves portraying Muslims as a violent, savage people. According to an article by Fusion, a Muslim attorney stated that Donald Trump’s anti-Muslim message “[makes [Muslims] feel less American.” This means that Muslims only feel safety at home because of public harassment and slander. Many Americans feel as if Muslim roles in American society are “inadequate” and therefore should be slandered. Anti-Muslim sentiment have been the cause of several extremist incidents, in which a woman was illegally evicted for being Muslim. Jalal, the evictee, claims that her landlord “[l]eft daily handwritten notes with threats and ethnic slurs on her door, such as ‘Get the fuck out of my house’ and ‘You’re a fucking nasty Arabic pig.’” This means that other individuals consumed by prejudice would also commit acts of privacy invasion and other disrespectful acts against those whom they are prejudiced …show more content…
A study by CAIR concluded “that 20 percent of Muslim students say they have experienced discrimination by a school staff member, the very people charged with protecting them from this type of hate.” This means that teachers, the ones that are supposed to protect victims of bullying, are often the bullies themselves when it comes to racial discrimination. There leaves very little option for remaining help when the educator is against you. Laurie Goodstein found that “‘Muslims and leaders of mosques across the United States say they are experiencing a wave of death threats, assaults and vandalism unlike anything they have experienced since the aftermath of the Sept. 11 terrorist attacks in 2001.’” As war looms on the horizon, many nationalists feel as though the conflict was caused by Muslim Americans, who have very little to almost nothing to do with the United States’ conflict against ISIS.
