Considering the era that they were producing this album, they used a significant amount of technologies in each song. In this song, 2 synthesisers; VCS3 (voltage controlled studio 3), and Synthi AKS, which came out just a year before this album was recorded, are being one of the key components in this song. Both synthesisers are produced by EMS (Electric Music Stuidio) based on London, formed in 1969.

VCS3 which was their first commercial synthesiser, main features are 3 controllable oscillators (VCOs), a noise generator, 2 inputs, ring modulator, low pass filter, reverberation level meter, trapezoid envelope generator, and stereo outputs. The another feature that stands out in this synth, is Matrix plugboard. This board has X and Y axis which corresponds to inputs and outputs. This matrix allowed musicians

Another synthesiser that is used in this track is Synthi AKS; the continuous 8 notes sequence that probably everyone heard from the beginning. This synth is a successor to the Synthi A, which came out in 1971. Synthi A was basically a portable version of VCS3 but later on, they added K (keyboard) and S (Sequencer) to it and invented Synthi AKS.

not just the VCS3’s sound effect, but the most of the sound effects in this song have been panned from one side to another side, fades in and out by changing the volume so they sound like they come and go one after another.

In fact, Pink Floyd really focused on the possibility of stereophonic sounds even it wasn’t focused back then, due to the recording environment. Around the time, standard recording studios had 4, or maybe 8-tracks mixer for the whole band. However, for the recordings of this album, the studio used 16-track mixers which gave much wider options of stereo sound

Spector’s ensemble consisted of, “over 20 top session musicians for the recording,” many back up singers and Tina Turner (River, 2018). As the song starts one can hear the iconic entry of musician layering and heavy use of reverb. Right away Tina enters with her powerful baritone voice. When the orchestra and Tina hit their peaks, there is almost a sense of too much reverb. Additionally, Spector’s use of overdubbing may have seemed a bit extreme as oppose to complimentary.…

The lyrics tend to describe scenes, and the music paints them with color. The instruments work to both enhance intensity and give the songs brightness, and then transition into calmer, darker, and more serene moments in the songs. The variation of instruments is pleasant to the ear. The main instruments are instruments that would exists in a garage band: the guitar, bass, drums, and vocalist, but this album is a step or two above a garage band. Instrument-wise there are hints of strings, synthesized instruments, keyboard as well as other sounds that are not common in a low fi album.…

This is so that the tracks could progress into the style we wanted with the use of compression, reverbs and certain colouring effects. Most of the tracks in the final mix session were processed in some way. During this session, compression was applied to both the Kick Drum microphones, Drum Overheads, Floor Tom, both Rhythm Guitar microphones, Saxophones and the Lead Vocal. The Klark Teknik SQ1 were used for everything with the exception of the Lead Vocal which was the Focusrite Compounder Class A. Other effects include Reverb and Autotune on vocals and a Choral/Flanger and Dynamic Delay on the Guitar solo which was rendered to the track in Pro…

Most of the music is recorded on tape and the emerging artists composed mostly in their bedrooms or garage so they recorded a lot on cassettes and exchanged cassettes with other artists. The instruments used were mostly affordable analog synthesizers and drum machines manufactured in the 1970s and 1980. The drums were mostly snappy and basic sequenced patterns and the synth melodies are often very thin and trebly. Most of the bass synth sounds were sequenced into very basic bass lines. Sometimes there was usage of circuit bending, where you take a circuit board from an old synth, toy or something else with a circuit board and change the sound by fucking the circuit board up and make a completely new sound.…

The overall sound of this recording is soft and smooth, but very upbeat. The sound of recording sound like it was production and did not take that long. The amazing thing about Ray Charles is most of his work and time in the studio is all improvise. For example, the masterful saxophone and piano solo was all improvised, which allow the beat to more real and not rehearsed. This allows the overall sound to have a more natural sound which allow the instruments to find way in compliment different chords together.…

Argumentative Paper: Artificial Intelligence in Music There is something about music that seems inherently human. It can make people cry or laugh; jerk their bodies or stop them in awe; and even motivate them or put them to sleep. For the most part, humans have been the only ones to create and use music for recreational use for millennia (Armony and Vuilleumier, 2013). With that being said, it is difficult to imagine music being made by anything else.…
