For recording assignments of Sound Recording Techniques 1, we as a group endeavoured to record a cover of ‘Treasure’ by Bruno Mars. The song itself was written and produced by Bruno Mars, Ari Levine and Philip Lawrence who labelled themselves as ‘The Smeezingtons’. The original song is usually associated with the genres of Disco, Pop, Funk and Soul. The Smeezingtons claim that the song was inspired by ‘Baby I’m Yours’ by Breakbot, who is a french producer and DJ who claimed that Treasure was a rip-off. For this we listened to various songs and producers in the orignal style such as Maurice White of Earth, Wind and Fire, Stevie Wonder and Nile Rodgers of Chic and collaborated on Random Access Memories by Daft Punk. There’s a cynical ridiculousness in the low-key “The Treasure”, the fourth fictional feature from Corneliu Porumboiu, author of “12:08 East of Bucharest” and “Police, Adjective”. I confess I expected more from the Romanian director/screenwriter, especially if we take into account the more valuable cinematic treasures mentioned above. All the features that characterize Mr. Porumboiu’s directorial approach can be found in his new deadpan comedy, which starts in a curious way, becoming overdetailed in its midsection, only to resuscitate in its laughable final part. Costi (Cuzin Toma) is a caring father, despite arriving late at school to pick up his son, Alin (played by Cuzin’s real-life son, Nicodim), a Peter Pan enthusiast who’s often beaten up by another kid.…

At this point, the take with slower pace became really helpful. Leatrice was able to cut around the footage to make it sound ok, and Robbie mentioned that if we have recorded sound separately, we can just overlap the soundtrack and blend them in with fade in.…

Written Assignment #2 The legendary producer Phil Spector is most famous for his creative technique of overdubbing an orchestra size group of musicians. The ensemble would include, “ five or six guitars, three or four pianos, and an army of percussion, including multiple drum kits, castanets, tambourines, bells, and timpani — to produce a massive roar” (Kemp, 2001).
