By making supervisors and subordinates aware of their mindfulness while interacting with others, workplace stress can also be reduced and workplace relationships can show an improvement, mainly because they help employees and employers managing their stress (Whetten, 2007). When stress reduces inside the workplace it is easier to get along with others and to be more open to opinions and ideas. Another important point regarding mindful communication in the workplace, is that it helps increasing empathy and building relationships, and this results in a positive working environment where people feel confident and happy. (Goleman, 1998)
When relationships between supervisors and subordinates are positive, it is easier for supervisors to act as leaders and also being perceived as one. In most of the cases it is believed that the CEO of the company has to be the leader, but according to Scandura “At lower levels of the organization supervisors take on leadership functions” by taking on the lead supervisors guide, support, and motivate their subordinates, which results on a huge impact, that depending on the type of communication, and how mindful they are when interacting with others, can be positive or negative.
