The first true version of mass media that our country experienced was the newspaper and that was all thanks to the printing press. By having the newspaper people were finally able to read and understand what was going on around them and not only what they heard by word of mouth (Hearens, Par.1). As technology advanced so did society. As information became easier to access, the readers demanded more making the mass media industry skyrocket. By the early 20th century everyone had a newspaper delivered to their doorstep, billboards were up on every mile marker and street corner, and marketing became even more invasive in stores, radio, and film(Hearens,Par.3,4). Not only has mass media become more prevalent to our growing society but, it has changed and expanded since the printing press. With our digital savviness mass media has transformed into another world. All people need to do in order to see what’s going on in our country is power up their smart phone or log into a social media account. The amount of information these outlets have is mind boggling to the normal civilian but, that is also the downside to this issue. The effects and uses of mass media have become more modernized but its intensity is so threatening that many who use it are brainwashed rather than able to form their own opinions. Often times information is biased or not true. It is a critical problem for today’s society because it allows millions to be reading false information or studying biased…
