I am a pursuing a bachelors of arts in communication with a minor in English and theater. I aspire to become a multimedia journalist after college for the purpose of giving citizens authentic news.

News is essential in today’s society for numerous reasons, however, journalist sway their opinions into facts and this is hurting our society, even though everyone has the right to factual information. “Have nothing to do with fruitless deed of darkness, but rather expose them” (Ephesians 5:11).

I was not able to read until the second grade and I did not discover I was dyslexic until the ninth grade.
Although I was not a quick learner, my fourth grade English teacher, Mrs. Lawson, showed me unconditional patience and love, she is the reason I am so passionate about English today. Sadly, Mrs. Lawson along with her family of five died in 2009, during only her second year of being a teacher. Through only a year and a half of teaching, Mrs. Lawson was able to leave a legacy of students to have a desire to pass on the love of English.

Last summer, I had the opportunity to be a camp counselor at Camp Eagle for majority 6-8 year-old-girls. Since then, God has shown in me a love for children and an underlying passion to help guide them spiritually and teach them that although books are daunting, anyone can read and feel welcome in a library. I believe by showing kids Christ, love, and pleasure for books, we will have a stronger

The media aims to teach the audience based on the ideas the news network believes or in other words the political party the media source favors. Furthermore, media is notorious for exaggerating some topics only to boost ratings. Higher ratings equal more money and with more money comes greater power. Media sources will only present information based on the perspective that will be most beneficial, therefore, it is crucial for the viewers to educate themselves of the bias in the media and learn how to find truth in a distorted journalism. This is major trouble for news consumers, ever since the emergence of the Post-Truth era because before the Post-Truth Era consumers already had to wade through swamps of different competing viewpoints that sometimes give mainly facts and some opinion and sometimes gave more opinions then fact, but now in the Post-Truth Era, with news stories have evolved to not only included heavily swayed viewpoints with a mix of opinion and facts, but also news stories could also feature competing realities, which was caused by growing sense of omniscience garnered by the news media over time. The media also has increased the value of breaking an important story first because of instant gratification that their audience seeks and expects, which means that even if not all the facts are verified, the new agency should release the news about the event, and correct anything wrong as the story continues to…

When I think of the news I picture mainstream media stations like CNN or Fox News going over what has happened in the world as short bits to fill the time slots. I don’t picture certain reporters, just the big name network presenting what is happening in the world, with different levels of bias. To me the news is any type of media that informs the audience of what is going on in the world, whether it is about celebrities or current events. It wasn’t until this essay that I accepted that I include celebrity gossip in my definition of the news.…

“Citizen journalism,” (p. 190) represents one of the new media inventions. These so called journalists rose out of the power of the Web and somehow have directly contributed to an erasion of media core content and its benefits to the public. The book author shared a critical perspective towards citizen journalists disagreeing that they could become “an answer to the problem of shrinking iron core,” (p. 191). He explained his position suggesting that such an arrangement leads to unreliability in the long term and presents biased perspectives. As a consequence, rigorous journalistic ethics is at stake as new news media move rapidly toward the “more elastic standards of tabloid journalism and nonobjective news coverage,” (p. 103).…

Also, one of many journalism ethics is for news companies to inform the audience with news and point out the problems that are occurring in society. Although, many people may say that hard news does not bring profit that is false. For many decades the people were interested in hard news and were informed on real news but the news has changed it’s focus on soft news and the profits. As a result, the news companies have become less trustworthy due to the fact that they focus on profits rather than journalism ethics. Not only does hard news make the news more informative but it also brings a more credible appeal to the…

As Christians, we should stand up for truth and fairness and stand up for what is right no matter what it may be including the news. How can we do that? What can we do? We can write letters and make phone calls to media outlets and demand that they change what they are doing. If enough people stand up and become activists against biased news coverage than something can and will get done because it will become “Big News” and the more people that get involved the sooner the issue will get attention.…

There have been multiple cases in which many news broadcasting stations have lied to their viewers in order to spread fear and confuse, when in reality nothing serious had happened. In today’s world there seems to be three reasons in which the media is causing harm in today’s growing society. In 1955 O’Conner, a famous writer, writes a letter to a fan, making it very clear that there is an ugly reality in the truth, and often the truth is misinterpreted. So many people would rather imagine the truth as a glamorized image of beauty and perfection or train wreck disaster and the true reality is somewhere in the middle.
