That media bias is non-existent, or at least not a problem. Many of the people that claim this do it because they are scared. Scared that everything they have been told by the media could have been a lie. They combat this fear with outright denial. In the article Mass Media, Paul Farhi says,“In fact, there's little to suggest that over the past few decades news reporting has become more favorable to one party”. Farhi is a media reporter for the Washington Post, a national newspaper that strongly emphasises American politics, and has been on the decline in recent years. This example of blunt denial only strengthens the counter-argument, as there is little proof for this viewpoint. Many share this viewpoint, preferring to put their trust into the press rather than think for themselves. One only has to turn on their television to see the proof of the bias shown by media outlets. Often, purveyors of information twist facts and occurrences in order to obtain more viewers or gain favor with political figures. This can result in the common citizen being fed incomplete information and given the wrong impression about a situation. Even now, news outlets contribute to the spread of islamophobia. Dr. Arthur F. Buehler states, “Instead of isolating political, economic, and military reasons for actions, the mass media portrays all events involving Muslims as religiously motivated behaviour” (Islamophobia). Dr. Buehler is a Senior Lecturer at the University of Wellington. The media often intersplices images of the attacks on the World Trade Center with Arabic writing at phrases found within the Qur’an, creating an image-association between suffering and the Islamic religion. This causes the viewer to associate pain and suffering with a relatively peaceful group of people. The Muslim people are not the only ones weighed down with this stigma. Hispanics are also targeted with stereotypes. As Lena-Snomeka Gomes said in the article Racism and Ethnic Bias in the Media Is a Serious Problem, “Too often we set out to write stories that end up marginalizing people in harmful ways because the stories tend to exacerbate those stereotypes. Or we ignore the stories that do not conform to the stereotypes” Many different groups face discrimination, and the media only advances these views. All of
