Strength of an organisation mostly depends on the management team. Without it, the organisation will go haywire. The people who run the management teams are called managers. “Management involves coordinating and overseeing the work activities of others so that their activities are completed efficiently and effectively” (Robbins et al., 2009, p.10). The manager interviewed is Mr. W and works for a small company, Neoncrafts Sdn Bhd. It has been established since January 1993. He holds the top-level, as a managing director (MD) since the business started. The company provides service of installing neon lights. Mr. W spends most of his time outside the office, such as being a spokesperson, entrepreneur and liaison for the company. A small company needs to have teamwork and cooperation between each other is important to ensure a smooth flow of work. Fayol’s 6th principle; Subordination of individual interests to the common good, states “the goals of the organisation must take over the precedence over the interests of the individuals or groups in the organisation” (Rodrigues, 2001) this is not applicable to the organisation now because the employees are the asset of the company. In order for the company to move forward, the employees have to be motivated and the interest of the individuals cannot be ignored. Now, “organisation demonstrates more commitment to its employees than in the pasts” (Rodrigues, 2001). Mr. W looks after his employees’ welfares and he gives support and encouragement when needed. He takes his employees seriously and ensures everyone is content.
Technology helps the organisation improves efficiency and saves time. It also helps by saving cost, such as using less labor and more machinery to do the work.
