In the case of Walker Holahan, he and other students became anxious because they could not access the Internet to send or check e-mails during a power outage on campus (Cooney). Another case is Mike. He is a patient at Internet/Computer Addiction Services that is run by Dr. Hilarie Cash. He is nervous if he cannot access the news and sport websites every day (Kershaw). According to Tony Dokoupil’s article “Is the Onslaught Making Us Crazy,” the researchers at Missouri State University illustrated that thirty percent of kids who spend hours checking emails, chatting, playing video games, sharing files, and browsing websites had signs of depression, according to a study of 216 kids’ Web habits. Internet obsession, obviously, is associated with anxiety and depression. Additionally, computer addicts who sit long hours every day increase chances of physical illness. With game cafes popular in Asia, especially in Korea, many gamers spend most of their time playing games, while they neglect their basic physical needs. According to a commentary published in the Archives of Pediatric & Adolescent Medicine, the reason for a 28-year-old Korean man’s death was he played games for fifty hours straight without eating or sleeping (Cooney). Dokoupil says, “At least 10 ultra-Web users, serviced by one-click noodle delivery, have died of blood clots from sitting too long”. Overall, these computer addicts consider web use is more important than eating and sleeping. Finally, chronic illness is a common problem for many computer users. Sitting too long in front of a computer, especially in a wrong posture, can cause back pain. I suffered from back pain for a year because I sat at least seven hours daily to work with the computer. Computer users should be aware of these problems, which are signs of potential Internet
