Over the decades, marketing strategies have advanced, enforcing more power over people than most would care to admit. In an article published in The Onion, it mocks the hidden, yet obvious, lies instilled in present-day advertisements by creating their own faulty product: the MagnaSole. The satirical tone of the essay exemplifies the undeniable truth the majority of advertisements are fraudulent and dishonest. Through the use of over exaggerations, an appeal to false authority, and fabricated jargons, sarcasm drips off of this writing in an effort to ridicule the actions marketers will take in order to deceive the population into believing that their product out ranks competitors. From the very start of this article, a clear, over exaggeration of the MagnaSoul is placed, lathered with sophisticated language, making it seem as if it is a logical statement. Bogus terms such as “kilofrankels”, “bioflow”, “pain-nuclei”, and “comfortrons” are spotted in the advertisement, particularly from quotes of doctors. Because these are words that no one has heard of, they are not questioned because of the fact that they sound mature enough to be sincere words with a legitimate meaning. Through precise placement of rhetorical fallacies and a satirical tone, this advertisement mocks marketers and the ridiculous steps they will take in order to make their product the most appealing of all others. This article is successfully able to convey how phony advertisements are today, yet how gullible people become when they want to believe an unheard of miracle device performs
