Living by The Book Response Paper

The book “Living by The Book” by Howard G. Hendricks and William D. Hendricks was one that hit to the core. It was raw, and eye opening and truly convicting. In one part of the book Hendricks quotes, “This book will keep you from sin, or sin will keep you from this book. You are either in the Word and the Word is conforming you to the image of Jesus Christ, or you are in the world and the world is squeezing its mold. To many of us are under the Word of God, but not in it for ourselves.” And I found myself totally agreeing with this quote. It made me evaluate my own life as a believer, and whether I’m in the word actually myself, or if I’m just under the word but not actually in it. And the result was actually petrifying because I learned that I have been under the The Masters College umbrella. That I could be learning so much from chapel and bible classes, but not actually setting time aside for myself to be in the word and have quiet time with my Lord and Savior. I learned that many times in my rebellion I find myself thinking that I don’t need God and that I can do everything on my own. And sometimes, its just really my own stubbornness that keeps me from being in the word. Secondly I learned that bible study is essential to spiritual growth. If I want to grow not only spiritually but in my walk with Christ, I’ve got to discipline myself and immerse myself by growing in the word. I learned that I do not necessarily “long” for the word…
