Vanderbilt Medical Center Case Study

As noted by Wayne Wood (n.d.), Vanderbilt Medical Center became a part of Vanderbilt University in 1874 and has been ranked as one of the top medical centers for patient care, research and education in the nation by US News and World Report. The Vanderbilt fact sheet notes that its clinics, hospitals and affiliates span across 172 counties and consists of “8 hospital systems and 48 hospital locations” (Facts, n.d).
In this region Vanderbilt is considered unique because it consists of a level one adult trauma center in this area, a Level four Neonatal Intensive Care Unit, comprehensive cancer center, dedicated burn center and is Tennessee’s only solid organ transplant center, as noted by the Vanderbilt fact sheet.
Vanderbilt’s mission is to “advance health and wellness through preeminent programs in patient care, education, and research” (Facts, n.d.). Vanderbilt seeks physicians who provide compassionate care while translating new knowledge into meaningful improvements in health outcome.
