Abstract
This paper addresses the patterns of illness and wellness of a 75-year-old woman presented to the Emergency Department at New York Medical Center with complaints of chest pain. Patterns of Health and illnesses are influenced by different factors such as age, gender, geographical location, social status, genetics, familial history, education and environment. Some of health behaviors that include physical activity, tobacco use, alcohol consumption and diet choices affect the patterns of health and illnesses.

Patient eats regularly in fast food restaurants; this increases the chances for high blood pressure, Hypercholesterolemia, Type 2 Diabetes, Depression, Osteoporosis and Atherosclerosis, and some cancers. Fast food restaurants use processed products, high fats and a lot of sugar/salt to make their food tastier. According to World Heart Federation (2016), “Frequent consumption of high-energy foods, such as processed foods that are high in fats and sugars, promotes obesity compared to low-energy foods. High consumption of saturated fats and trans-fatty acids is linked to heart disease.” Diet lacking essential vitamins, minerals and other nutrients can cause malnutrition, fatigue and a host of physical and psychological ailments. Patient does not have regular physical exercises due to age and chronic conditions. This increases the risks of chronic conditions. “Many characteristics we associate with older age — like the inability to walk long distances, climb stairs, or carry groceries, are largely due to a lack of physical activity,” explains Dr. John Montgomery, a family physician, medical epidemiologist and vice-president …show more content…
