Material and Method Subjects and samples- This was a case-control study conducted in King George’s Medical University, a tertiary-care teaching institute, and Ram Manohar Lohia Hospital, a tertiary-care government non-teaching institute, in Lucknow, Uttar Pradesh, India. A total of 1118 subjects were enrolled including 559 cases and 559 controls. Cases were defined as mothers (age 18-40 years) of live preterm neonates (birth at less than 37 weeks of gestation).…
Purpose The purpose of this lab is to investigate animal behaviors by diving into the world of ethology. There are two ways pill bugs will respond to environmental stimuli: Kinesis (non-directional response) and taxis (directional response). Kinesis occurs when organisms (randomly) move around quickly when they’re unhappy and slowly when they’re happy, which is best demonstrated when one lifts up a rock or other material that the pill bugs are under. In contrast to the simpler response that does not necessarily involve many neurons, taxis is often observed in response to changes in light, heat, moisture, sound, and/or chemicals (odor).…
Part C: Answer each question related to the experiment. 1. Write your problem from the first page, then answer your problem(question). How will changing the surface of the penny (by adding soap) affected the number of water drops the penny can hold?…
The Thompson’s Premature Birth case study was based off of Felicia and Will Thompson who were a married couple that were expecting a baby boy. Will was actively in the military, and he was shipped to serve the country. Mrs. Thompson was pregnant and home alone worrying about the dangers that comes along with her husband being in the combat zone. Fourteen weeks prior to her due date Mrs. Thompson went into labor and gave birth to their one pound son Paul. Mr. Thompson was able to come home to visit his family, but it was only for a short period of time.…
Determining the impact of Auxin in pea plants, and its effect on lateral bud growth Megan Posey Bio 121-104 John Barry 10/23/16 Abstract Auxin is a hormone that helps to regulate bud growth, cell elongation, and many other aspects of plants. Apical dominance is a phenomenon that occurs due to the presence of auxin and stops lateral bud growth.…
The fruit flies does deal with dominant vs. recessive for the wing traits. Complete dominance occurs when the dominant allele complete cover (hide) the recessive allele. This occurs to the wing traits in the fruit flies. Normal wings are dominant over vestigial wing and base on the data, the female that carries the vestigial wing did not create any F1 generation of vestigial traits. This occurs because the male has normal wing so when the two parent meet; the dominant normal wing in the male completely cover up the recessive vestigial wing in the female traits.…
Identify five risk factors associated with LBW and preterm birth. A infant that weighs less than 5 pounds, 8 ounces is diagnosed as low birthweight. Babies weighing less than 1,500 grams (3 pounds, 5 ounces) at birth are considered very low birthweight. Gestational age is the common term used during pregnancy to describe how far along the pregnancy is.…

Life after High School This investigation was to find the change in future aspiration of high school seniors in the US after 9/11. The suggestion was that the economic impact of the attack would cause fewer childten to have the means to enroll in college. However some where divided on the impact it would have on enlistment as wether it would increase due to patriotistic sentiment or decrease with them rise in probability of actual engagement.…
From September 23, 2015 to October 3, 2015 I conducted a survey with 22 current students enroll at The University of Texas at San Antonio if they think Electoral College should be abolished or not. In the survey I conducted, 18 college students believe Electoral College should be abolished and 4 believe it should not be abolished. The percentage is 18% believe Electoral College should not be abolish and the remaining 82% believe it should.…
The question at hand will make you ponder which of two vaccines, a nasal spray or a shot, is most effective in preventing someone from coming down with the flu. This study’s null hypothesis determines that there will be no difference between the two treatments, and the alternative hypothesis states that the nasal spray/shot is more effective than the other treatment. The alternative hypothesis is accepted, in the research it is found that the shot is more effective, it is found to be more effective by 8%. Since the level of significance is 5%, it is evident that these results can be considered statistically significant.…

What is premature birth? A premature birth is a birth that takes place more than three weeks before the baby is due. In other words, a premature birth is one that occurs before the start of the 37th week of pregnancy. Normally, a pregnancy usually lasts about 40 weeks. Premature birth gives the baby less time to develop in the womb.…
What statistics were used to describe the length of labor in this study? Were these appropriate? The SD of the experimental group was 7.78 hours with a mean of 14.63 and was measured in 30 of 32 subjects. The SD of the control group was 7.2 hours with the mean being 12.79 hours, measured in 33 of 35 subjects. Based on the statistical methods to obtain the means, these number look right to me although 12 to 14 hours of labor for an average woman in today’s world is often long thus I would expect the median to actually be lower and wouldn’t necessarily agree that they are appropriate.…
The first half of the second semester in AP Statistics, was used to study the most difficult topics of the year. These included probability theory, probability models, simulation, and sampling distributions. Using all that we learned about these topics we began the real work of statisticians: using confidence intervals and hypothesis testing for inference. We will continue to expand on the basic inference concepts we’ve studied until we complete the AP Statistics curriculum. Our final weeks of the year will be spent preparing for the AP exam.…
