Changing The Surface Of A Penny Essay

Improved Essays
Part C: Answer each question related to the experiment.

1. Write your problem from the first page, then answer your problem(question). How will changing the surface of the penny (by adding soap) affected the number of water drops the penny can hold? The answer is that by changing the surface of the penny, the penny holds less drops of water because the soap is filling up the cracks, and the surface. 2. Write your hypothesis from part B.
If we change the surface of the penny by putting soap on the penny then, the penny will hold less drops of water, and we will get different results then the original.

3. List at least 3 pieces of data from your experiment(and your textbook/notes) that shows support for or refutes your hypothesis.

My hypothesis was supported by my data, I know this because I predicted that the soapy penny would hold less number of drops compared to the clean penny or the penny with no soap.
The data from my lab is as shown: our groups clean dry penny held 31.8 drops but

Describe how your group’s results compared to the other groups in your class.
For part A, my groups data was similar to the class data because of our group average was 31.8 which the other groups were also around the same average as we had gotten at 20-30 drops of water.
For part B, my groups data was similar to the class data because our group average was 15 drops which the other groups were also around the same average as we had gotten at 10-15 drops of water.

6. Provide at least 2 possible reasons for any differences you identified in #5. Explain why these reasons would cause the differences you observed. One reason for this could be variation this would cause a difference because it makes it to where we are going to get different results than one another by say different soap type is one of them. A second reason for the differences could be the dropper this would cause a difference because we can get many size drops on the penny compared to one same size

This experiment is to be used to determine the era of which the composition and thus the density of the penny changed, and what the other metal besides copper has made up the composition since 1962. First, ten pennies from three different time periods (1995-1999, 2000-2004, 2005-present) were gathered. All ten pennies from a specific time were weighed together on an analytical balance. Then, a fifty mL graduated cylinder was filled with twenty mL of water, which was recorded as the initial volume. The ten pennies were dropped into the graduated cylinder one at a time so that the liquid didn’t splash.…

Have you ever wondered why soda corrodes metals such as pennies, nails, etc.? How does it corrode them? One of the questions is if the soda does corrode the pennies how long will it take and why does it do it. It will take five days to fully corrode the pennies back to their shiny state, and will make them look brand new though they are probably a few years old. This test could get people to stop drinking soda which would lessen the risk of type 2 diabetes that can be caused by being overweight.…

In this experiment, I found the Macadamia nut to provide the most energy per gram of nut. I found this by dividing the calories released by the mass of the nut. When I did this calculation for the peanut I found the average values for energy released to be 1.685Cal/g. When I did these calculations for the Macadamia, I found the average to be 2.62Cal/g. The Macadamia nut also provided a higher percentage burned than the peanut did, the Macadamia nut was 70% burned while the peanut burned 50%. Trial 1 and 2 data’s for both nuts were consistent and close in range.…

Huffingtonpost surveyed people and showed most people don't want to get rid of it. I strongly believe pennies should be retired because the following reasons. Pennies cost more than face value, countries have done it before, and they are not useful enough.…

The reason for doing the following experiments is to see how contaminantswill affect the ground water. For experiment one my hypothesis is as follows: If oil is dumped onthe ground, then the soil will be able to stop the oil from reaching and contaminating thegroundwater. Also if vinegar and laundry detergent are dumped on the ground, then the soil willnot be able to stop these agents from reaching and contaminating the groundwater. For experiment two my hypothesis is as follows: If water mixed with soil is passedthrough a filtration system, then it will be free of soil.…

As stated originally, our hypothesis for the laboratory experiment was that there is an inverse relationship between the percent abundance of tap water in a mixture and the size (diameter) (cm) of the bubbles produced from the respective mixture. However, our experimental process yielded just the opposite results- a direct relationship between the percent abundance of tap water in a mixture and the size (diameter) (cm) of the bubbles produced from the respective mixture- meaning that when there was a higher percent abundance of tap water in a mixture, bubbles larger in size (diameter) (cm) resulted. This means that we believe that Alyson, Sarah, and Teddy’s third mixture created the largest average bubble size (diameter) of 19.73 cm because…

The purpose of this experiment was to figure out which of the four foods could burn the longest and cause the most temperature change in water. To carry out this lab, all groups had to hold a piece of burning food under a can of water and record the change in temperature. Also, every piece of food had to be weighted before and after burning to see the change in mass. With the change in mass and the temperature change, you can then figure out what they total amount of calories for that piece of was. Table 1 above shows all of the data that my lab partner, Jamie, and I collected during our experiment.…

Due to the small amount and worth, The cost to make a penny compared to how much it is valued, and the fact that these days, credit and/or debit cards have becoming increasingly popular limiting the use of change and even cash, pennies are an additional burden that the US does not need to be carrying. My hypothesis was "If one cup has a raspberry and the other doesn't" Then The cup with the raspberry will catch more organisms because They want to eat the raspberry so they go into trap number 2. " My hypothesis was correct because I caught ten more organisms the the one with out a lure. After all this research I could come to the conclusion that organisms like raspberry compared to nothing at all. Some evidence from my expire ment that supports the conclusion is that the raspberry caught about 10 organisms while the empty one caught only 1.…

As students spent some decent amount of time in the experiment, they will come up with some data and the final step for students is to record their data and compare their data with other groups. The following graph chart is based on the data that are provide from four different groups in the class: This diagram shows the coliform growth data from four different groups. According to the data, we can easily calculate that the mean value of coliform growth in Ottawa river is 346.50, the standard deviation is 62.34 and the standard error is 31.17. The mean value, standard deviation, and the standard error for tap water is all zero since there is not coliform growth in the tap water.…
