Koro's Leadership In In Whale Rider

In Whale Rider leadership is a curtail part in the film. Koro is determined to find a new traditional leader. In Paikea’s eyes she sees potential in herself and she believes that being a leader you can be male or female. Paikea wants to follow traditional culture but in a modern way.

Leadership is standing up for what you believe in. If your actions inspire others to dream more, learn more, do more and become more you’re a leader. The word “leadership” can bring to mind a variety of images. Koro is the traditional chief and elder of the community. Koro is a strong leader who is determined and proud. Koro battles throughout the film with allowing himself to see Pai as the tribe’s leader. Koro really inspires Pai, Pai looks up to her grandfather because at hard times no one is there for Pai. In Pai’s speech she said, “even though you’re the leader you get tired sometimes.” Pai was really trying to tell Koro. From Pai’s speech she summed up leadership very well. In the film Pai proves she was trying to say you do not always have to be the leader you can pass your problems to your friends and they can help you get through it. Leadership is about being strong and respectful.

To be a leader and to have leadership you have to be a male. Koro was trying to prove that woman cannot be a leader. In Koro’s opinion he sees that being a leader you have to be a male, strong, respectful and powerful. In Pai’s opinion she sees that anyone can be a leader no matter how powerful his or her voice is. Koro believes that if a woman was a leader they would not be successful and they would fail. When Pai was able to catch Koro’s whale tooth and was able to fix the machine, Koro knew he had made a big mistake and maybe he doubted her. Pai shows more respect and courage than her grandfather
