King Farms, a dairy farm located in Sturgeon, Missouri has hired me, as a safety and health manager to develop a safety and health policy to protect all employees at King Farms and provide a culture of safety. The organization has twenty employees and as a mission to treat each employee as a member of their own family. King Farms wants to send their employees home after each day healthy and without any injuries. Training regarding safety and health policies are conducted for the employees. Training will be assessed as pass or fail and are mandatory for all employees. How to identify hazards on the farm, understanding what affects safety and health, how to abide by correct practices, procedures or strategies (Personal Protective Equipment) and how to respond to a new/unexpected hazard are some major factors discussed in training. The safety committee will hold training for all new employees and weekly training sessions organized by an internal safety committee to review and discuss and concerns are topics that are important for employees to become aware of. Supervisors/employers are required to check employee’s safety routine randomly; any concerns should be reported. Safety and health policies are posted in the front entry of the barn, the employer office, and in the personal protective equipment and machinery storage shed. This health and safety policy has been read, dated, and signed by all employees and are expected to be abided by.
The organizational safety and health policy will be implemented by several steps. First, employees are required to initial on a checklist handing in the storage shed that they are wearing the proper personal protective equipment before starting a task (Funkenbusch, 2017). Second, the employer conducts random checks to ensure that all aspects of the policy are being followed. Third, a checklist regarding best practices such as checking housekeeping, power and hand tools, equipment guards and shields and material handling equipment is evaluated daily (Funkenbusch, 2017 (Writing)). Fourth, a checklist which enforces occasionally checking of first aid/emergency equipment, fire extinguishers, pesticide storage and disposal, ventilation, water supplies, and equipment storage and shop arrangement is also required.
