The introduction of the song had a slow tempo with a long notes riff and a sad sounding piano melody along with vocals repeating "let my people go.......let my people go". The drums were being played with two different pairs of sticks, one which had the tips covered with a white cotton characteristic fabric (mallets) and normal common sticks. The drum's beat had very soft volume, especially when he used the mallets. Then the saxophone played a solo that incorporated growling and bent, high pitched notes. The trumpet then joined the saxophone and also played some growling notes; then they both stopped playing and the piano, drums, and bass continued playing. The piano played very stiff notes and the bass emphasized the deep notes. Then the vocalist came along and improvised what the piano and bass were playing, he also added some notes that sounded similar to falling-off bent notes. After the vocalist finished his improvisation section he did eye contact with the trumpet and saxophone and then everyone went back to playing a more darkish tone color. The vocalist also continued saying "let my people go". The band then started to decrease the volume and tempo until the song faded away. This song made me feel the emotion that the lyrics, "let my people go", emphasized; it felt as if there was a group of people that needed to be set free because of suffering or bad circumstances that they …show more content…
This piece was played at a slow tempo and had a beat of 4/4 time. This song had a classical style and had an introduction where all of the band members played the same melody, including the vocalist who singed along the melody's notes. After the introduction, the trumpet had a solo with a medium pace rhythm. The trumpet's solo was accompanied by the steady beat of the bass and drums and a soft volume melody from the piano. Then the pianist played with the bass and drums, he increased the tempo with his right hand while his left hand played almost one long note at a time. Then, the piano's volume lowered and the bass started playing some sort of riff that incorporated the same rhythm and pattern of sounds but with different strings/notes; the tempo of this was medium and had quite a brite timbre and some syncopation as well. After a few repetitions, everyone joined the riff with the exception of the guitar whom played its own harmony and added some interpretation of the riff and probably some improvisation. To finalize the song, the volume was lowered by everyone until the drums played the ending notes in a more forte volume. This song had a brite timbre unlike most of the songs in the concert, which makes sense due to the fact that it was not a spiritual piece and incorporated
