There was a certain call and response between the instruments if I may say so, where both instrument repeat the same sound back and forth. Throughout this song you mostly hear cymbals in the background and a little bit of solo by each the guitarist and the keyboardist. Then the song “Feel Like Making Love” was third. It was executed in a groove style and you could also hear the electronically recorded sound of cymbals and drums throughout the song. “Embraceable you” was fourth; it was dedication to one of his lady friend who came to hear him.…

On Wednesday, October 5, 2016 at 8:00 pm, I have attended a performance by Joy Harjo and her friends Mitch Taylor who played the guitar, Dave Copenhaver who played the bass guitar, and Smiling’ Vic Gutierrez who played the drums and vocals. I had specifically chose this performance to do my report on because I wanted to feel what actual Native American music would be like in concert as opposed to what we naturally think of when it comes to Native American music. For me, that would include heavy drumming and dancing, which are usually even-pulsed with a variety of vocables. Not to my disappointment, the music was unique in its own way and had spoke directly to me.…

The song then changed into more consonant harmony, which remained throughout the rest of the extended dialogue that sounded like dancing and twirling in a french restaurant. Since the song is made in both french in english, but the performers decided to sing the original song. Hip-hop and go-go music are instrumental in both storytelling and memorializing the social and cultural histories of urban spaces because they provide spaces for Black Americans to express and commemorate, while abandoned in a predominantly white and occupied system. Natalie Hopkinson, author of Go-Go Live: The Musical Life and Death of a Chocolate City states that “Black music is not just entertainment. It is a conversation across time and space. The same ways of speaking appear and reappear throughout the African diaspora throughout time, geography, and context (Hopkinson, 48).” The various forms of music that appear throughout existed in that time frame, then they “die out” but reappear again through “new combinations of the same components,” whether it be through the rhythms,…

These methods were considered integral in the formula for developing the musical and were later deemed “conventional”. Composers and lyricists throughout the years eventually adapted these conventions and have created some of the most successful shows that are still relevant to this day, including Sweeney Todd and Les Misérables. Some of those inspirational trend-setters include: George Cohen, Cole Porter, and the creative duos: Alan Jay Learner and Frederick Loewe; Richard Rodgers and Oscar Hammerstein II. Many of their shows became very popular due to the fact that they followed the conventional musical formula.…

The Soundtrack of My Life is a creative project that incorporates the use of music to describe who we are. For this assignment, we have to think deeply about what songs would clearly represent ourselves, and include an explanation as to how it describes us. I have chosen three songs to analyze in this assignment, and I feel like those songs would really describe me as a person. The songs that I have chosen are: "Good Riddance" by Green Day, "Ride" by Twenty One Pilots, and "I'm Good" by The Mowgli's. The overall main theme of these three songs is how every moment in life has importance and should be cherished, and how each past moment makes us up to who we are now.…
