Teamwork can be defined as the combined action of a group of people, especially when effective and efficient. My leadership philosophy is centered on this action. The old saying that there is no “I” in team is still prevalent today. But, I believe that each individual must become the best individual they can be in order for that team to become an elite team. Below you will find five key components that I think will make us a great team.
Leadership: A leader is the inspiration and director of an action. He or she is the person that possesses the combination of personality and leadership skills that makes others want to follow his or her direction. I believe that we must not only care about the job we are doing, but for each other also. We must never let turmoil become a divisive force within our section. We must rely on one another and share the knowledge that we acquire on a daily basis to further the growth of ourselves and the team.
Communication: Over-communication is paramount when trying to minimize misunderstandings and confusion. We all have to be vigilant in our approach when it comes to information sharing. The more the team shares information, insight, and ideas, the quicker we gel as a solid foundation. We must respect each other’s opinions and thoughts. Whether it is personally or professionally, over-communicate any issues though the proper channels. If you are overwhelmed, ask for help; if you are underwhelmed, give it.
Commitment: Your job and role in this section is important. You must commit yourself to becoming the Subject Matter Expert (SME) in your assigned area. I believe exercising initiative in the absence of instruction is imperative when trying to heighten your level of knowledge and expertise. When you are faced with adversity, commit to seeing it through. Commit to putting in the time and effort it takes to become the best individual you can become. Greatness does not happen overnight.
