J.-Armand Bombardier primary contributions to Canadian society during the 1920s to 1930s was that he improved the efficiency of transportation in Canada during winter by inventing the snowmobile and the Ski-Doo. His first snowmobile during that time was a technological breakthrough, holding up to three passengers. Two years later he improved the snowmobile to holding up to 7 passengers, due to the success and high demand of the snowmobile which was called the B7. He started to produce armored vehicles in 1942 and 1946 after the Canadian Armed Forces were interested in his B12 snowmobile. However they needed a more powerful version of it to be able to move troops efficiently and transport military equipment during winter after the start of the Second World War. This later expanded to Ontario and later on to Western Canada. He was born in Valcourt, Quebec which was a small town who most people living their where farmers. Since he was young he had passion of mechanics and inventing.("Joseph-Armand Bombardier", Historica Canada) He built toy tractors and boats for his younger siblings, as well as small toy trains as young as the age of 13 years old. ("Joseph-Armand Bombardier", The Canadian Encyclopedia) By the age of 19, he started his career as a true mechanic and inventor, after his family helped him build his garage from the money his father loaned to him in 1926. ("J-Armand Bombardier") The first time he created a full-scale vehicle was during New Years Eve in 1922 at the age of 15. This vehicle was a wooden car with a Model T Ford Engine on and a wooden propeller at the front. This allowed the vehicle to drive even on snowy terrain during the winter. In the end it was disassembled because his father said it can potential cause an injury, but the vehicle did drive for over a kilometer. His son died of peritonitis at the age of two because Bombardier family couldn't get to the hospital in time.
