In Milestone One: Negotiation

In Milestone One a negotiation is an interactive communication process that may take place whenever we want something from someone else or another person wants something from us. (http://corporate.findlaw.com) During discussions in 3-1 Collective Bargaining-Employee Safety we were broken up into two groups Management and Labor. The two groups were tasked with coming to an agreement on a new Collective Bargaining Agreement (CBA) for the company that both sides good agree with. Formal negotiations include negotiating collective bargaining agreements with labor unions, contracting with vendors and consultants, or meeting with employees and enforcement agencies to settle discrimination or other claims. These negotiations generally follow a predictable four-step process of preparation, the initial meeting, a recess and follow-up meetings. (Bliss, W. 2005)
The following questions were the main topics of the discussions.
• Should there be a set amount/limit that management will pay for new boots, jackets, and cold-weather gear?
• Should employees be allowed to pick out their own style of boots and gear?
• Is there only one source/vendor that all employees must use, or can they pick and choose?
• How should management handle gear that

Not all employees seem to be on the same page with that suggestion and thought that if they were paying a percentage they should be able to choose where they were buying their equipment. Management found that by monitoring what vendor the employees use, it would allow management to know that the employees are getting the needed gear that falls within OSHA regulations for the type of work they are doing. And it should put the employee at ease that they are getting the required gear from a reputable company that follow all of the safety guidelines in order to keep them
