According to Judith Graham ,“ At birth , the human brain is in a remarkably unfinished state. Most of it’s 100 billion neurons are not yet connected in networks.”. At this stage brain cells are “raw” materials. Child’s knowledge grows from everyday experiences. At birth babies are especially aware of new events using their sensory organs to draw out what can be learned. “Windows of opportunity” are vital stages in a baby’s learning life because specific types of learning occur. Between two to four months,“windows of opportunity” take place for the baby’s vision and hits intensity at eight months. The baby may begin to notice the things going on around it. A parent or caregiver may also notice that the baby focuses on their face more which correlates with their memory increasing and becoming more stable. The baby’s also begins to take notice to sounds. The baby may respond to sound stimuli such as it’s caregiver 's voice by smiling or becoming quite to focus on voice and make connection with the visual. The baby’s mind begins to group things in categories. Object shapes, sounds and texture that are similar are grouped …show more content…
“Early stimulation sets the stage for how children learn and interact with others throughout life” (Judith Graham , extension human development specialist , (n.d)) In order for a child’s brain to be developed to a great degree , repeated experiences are essential. Experiences , whether they are positive or negative influence the connections in the baby’s brain and nervous system. Kind , loving experiences with the baby’s caregivers stimulates results in strong stimulation of the brain causing connections in the brain to grow stronger. If the baby receives little to no stimulation fewer connects in the brain will develop. Therefore repeated positive or negative stimuli will result in either strong personal relationships or weak relationships in the future. Rocking , holding and coddling the baby is highly recommended for successful development of the learning brain. Caregivers should also read literature and speak to baby often in intelligent talk. Repeated exposure to words help build vocabulary and understanding in child’s
