During the course, I created a research proposal comparing how the political culture of Canada and the United States affects the political participation of immigrants. Both the United States and Canada had different political cultures and policies towards immigration, which affected their political trust and subsequent political participation. The comparison between these two countries and their policies towards immigrants showed me that the success of one country could be replicated in another. I realized that although both countries have different policies regarding immigration, the comparison between the two could allow one to pinpoint the positive and negatives of their respective policies. Therefore, the practical application of political science within Public Policy would allow me to become more active within the political process. Consequently, the Public Policy program at UCSD is appealing to me because the skills we learn from the program can then be practically applied to a professional career in public
