Song 1:
“I’m the Man” - Aloe Blacc
“It's time to do what must be done be a king when kingdom comes…”
“Go ahead and tell everybody, I'm the man…”
These lines from Aloe Blacc’s, “I’m the Man” remind of Creon in many ways. One way it fits Creon is because he has to become king of Thebes after Polyneices and Eteocles kill each other. Another reason it reminds me of him is also the cocky attitude he has because he wants everyone to know who’s in charge. When it says, “ It’s time to do what must be done…” reminds me of something Creon would say when he was saying Antigone has to die.
Song 2:
“Left Behind” - Jonathan Groff
“All things he ever wished are left behind. All the things his mama did to make him mind, and how his …show more content…
Every time we're down, you can make it right and that makes you larger than life...”
The first sentence describes how Creon feels with Haimon and Antigone’s love in two ways. The first way is before they both die because Haimon is fighting with his dad about it, which causes Haimon to leave on bad terms which ends up being their last conversation. The second way it reminds me of this is how everyone, including Creon, feels after the two die. The “larger than life” part reminds me of when Creon is told about the gods and how they always get revenge to make it right which foreshadows the death of the two lovers.
Song 4:
“Honor to Us All” - Various Artists
“We all must serve our Emperor, who guards us from the Huns.
A man by bearing arms, a girl by bearing sons...”
Although it says Emperor and Huns i believe this song still relates to Creon’s personality in the story. The first part makes me think of what the city is saying out of fear of Creon. I relate Huns to the treason Polyneices committed, so Creon “guards” them by not letting the city bury him since he is a traitor. The last line sounds like what he was saying to Haimon how he shouldn’t make a big fuss to save his fiancée because he can get any girl to bear his …show more content…
Haimon didn’t think his fiancée should be punished for burying her brother, especially if she believes that the gods think it’s right. Creon also threatens Haimon by saying he will kill Antigone right in front of him which means he was trying to pick a fight with his son. The second line might be what Creon thinks about Antigone and that once she’s gone there won’t be anymore problems with the whole thing.
Song 10:
“Classic Man” - Jidenna
“Keep my gloves dirty but my hands clean, got to keep the business in the family…”
“I'm a classic man, you can be me when you look this clean…”
These lines also give a good description of Creon. The beginning is how Creon wants to be about killing Antigone, he feels this way because he wants her to die for going against him but because everyone else thinks she was right to bury her brother, Creon doesn’t want them to hate him because of her death. Another way it describes Creon is how the “family business” is the royalty over the years and so he takes over because he is the last male around. Also the classic man part is another sense of superiority and arrogance that Creon
