Is it worth being tracked by dogs to become a free person? I am a black women ive been working in the hot sun in Florida for my entire life. As long as I can remember I have been picking cotton from sun up to sun down. I am now 22 years old and have fallen in love with a man named James he is working in the same cotton field as me, he tells me about his dream for us to runaway to the North to become free and start a family together. At night me and James sneak out of barn were we are forced to sleep, were it is so crowded that you feel like you cant even breathe, so it is nice to get away and talk on the top of the roof of the barn about one day runaway to a free state. As we laid on top of the roof James asked to run away with him tonight, at first I thought no we shouldn 't leave and what if we got caught by our master? I told James that I was scared but it is my dream to become free and start a family with him, so we began our journey to the free states. We didn 't even mind what state we lived in the North as long as we were free from slavery, we left with only the clothes on our backs and didn 't have any money for food or water. We had to travel at night so that no one would caught us, we tried to run all night long in the forest and go as far as our bodies would let us, and during the day we would hide in the fores and sleep.
