In the book, Incidents in the Life of a Slave Girl by Harriet Ann Jacobs, she clearly states that she doesn't want fame or forgiveness, but action,

Neither do I care sympathy for my own sufferings. But I do earnestly desire to arouse woman of the North to a realizing sense of the condition of two millions of woman at the South, still in bondage, suffering what I suffered, and most far worst.”
In this quote, she is saying that she doesn’t want to become famous, she doesn’t want people to give her stuff because of this experience. She would have rathered stayed quiet, but instead, she wants to show us how bad slavery is and is writing this to make people stop slavery.
