Richard Rodriguez is a famous American author, born in 1944. Instead of pursuing a career in teaching how to write, he became a freelance writer. His first well-known book is Hunger of Memory: The Education of Richard Rodriguez (1982). In this he goes over how he didn’t always love books. His essay is about the beginning of his experiences in reading and the steps he took to progress from disliking reading to making reading the joy of his life. His writing doesn’t only apply to reading, but can be extended to other forms of learning. He displays that once a person gets past the first few levels of reading it can become a joy to their lives.
