English 1301 Reflection Paper

Many students, including myself, tend to feel anxious at the beginning of the school year. There are new teachers to worry about, whether or not you’ll know people in class, and if you’ll truly understand the material being taught. The list of worries adds up at the beginning of the school year, but they always seem to double with dual enrollment students. The expectations walking into any English class are particularly low, however walking into 1302 one might expect the class to be one from their nightmares. One major flaw with the students today is that they don’t have enough confidence in what they write or the work that they do. They walk in to their English classes expecting to fail because they’re terrible writers, and walk out saying “Hey, that wasn’t so bad.” This is what I expect. I want to come out of this class feeling better and more confident in my writing than I did when this class began. …show more content…
My professor was great, he was encouraging and very helpful, but his material wasn’t at the level I would have expected for a college course. I went in with high hopes of learning more about a subject I love so much, but instead I walked out with no new information except for knowing all about Garcia Lorca. I actually love to read and write, and one of my favorite authors Jennifer Niven put it into words that I couldn’t have. In All the Bright Places her character Violet stated “I like writing, but I like a lot of things. Maybe out of those things, I'm best at writing” (pg. 155). I’m never too sure how to explain why I like the subject so much, and this was one of the best ways I could describe it. Maybe this is why I was so upset about not learning more in 1301, and maybe it’s the reason that I didn’t lose hope this past summer that 1302 would be more challenging and informational in every
