What is it like to be old in this milenum? Has technology helped or hindered our quality of life? What will be the view point once we are sixty-five and older? How will we interact with others in old age? Many questions come to mind when thinking about old age. To be a woman is a blessing, but it does have its down side when it refers to a woman that is aging. Unfortunately, women can be very competitive when interacting with other women. Although being a woman who is old is very different from aging as an individual they do share some similarities as “Human behavior and the social environment, theory and practice “ (2007) and “Voices: On becoming old women“ (2009) points out.
Both “ Human behavior and the social environment, theory and practice” (2007) and “Voices: On becoming old women “ (2009) are written by a woman telling their point of view of aging. I find it to be an honor to be a woman and in a profession that is dominated by men and have topics that relate to everyone if not directly, in-direct. Another similarity is both articles speak of oppression. Oppression among older people is nothing new. The United States have created laws to protect the elderly, but there are still many issues that are left unaddressed as well as the oppression of society towards older people and both articles address this. “Human behavior and the social environment, theory and practice” (2007) speaks of oppression of older minority and the poor, while “Voices: On becoming old women”…
