The changed in my appearance will be pronounced as the years climb. The most noticable physical appearances that will change will be facial wrinkles and age spots. (Santrock) Now, in my young days, I am aware of the fact that my behaviors in early adulthood creates the outcome of my life when I reach late adulthood. For example, I am very careful with sun exposure because of my family history of skin cancer. Todays preperation against the sun will decrease the intensity of my skin appearance. I also have a great family history with lung cancers and asthma. With that in mind, I have made the choice to stay away from smoking. Smoking can cause many problems in the physical health of my late adulthood. The lung’s capactiy to shuttle oxygen from the air I breath to the blood in my veins will begin to decrease in around age fifty. If pick up the habit of smoking and continue through my adult years, my lung capacity drops quickly. (Santrock) With excersise and an active lifestyle, the decline of my muscle mass and physical appearce will slow down. (Fragala) However, my liklihood of a stroke increases in late adulthood. Thirty-one percent of women in late adulthood has reported having aat least one stroke. Chronic sleep deprivation may contribute to heart disease and even shorten my life span. (Santrock) Experts report that the average American adult has become sleep deprived by not getting the necessary eight hours of sleep. If I remain on this lifestyle of little sleep, I will fall into the fifty percent of older adults who report having difficulty sleeping. Poor sleep patterns can result in an early death for me and even cause a decline in my cognitive functioning.
