Background Information C.G is an 86-year-old Hispanic woman, who is currently a widow because her husband died in 2006 from a stroke. C.G has seven children, all are which are in their late 40’s or 50’s, and they all live in separate towns in the Chicagoland area. In addition, about four of her children only go visit her and call her occasionally, but the rest of her children really do not call her or even visit her. Another conclusion I can draw from my interviewee is that she is a very wise older adult because she gives life a whole new meaning in her perspective. I can also see that my interviewee would rather spend time with her family than with anyone else in her social life. However, I learned that older adults such as my interviewee see themselves like normal people, and I also noticed that older adults may feel depressed if their loved ones abandon them from their lives. In addition, I also learned that older adults like to keep themselves occupied throughout their day because it makes their day go by faster. The one thing that surprised me was that my interviewee is still able to do her ADL’s and IDL’s in her everyday life even though she walks with her walker. During the interview, I was emotional at one point, but other than that I was fine throughout it because the interview lasted for an hour to an hour and a half. One of the changes I have had of older adults was that they cannot do many things for themselves, but after interviewing this person she made me realize that you cannot stereotype based on age overall. For example, before I used to think that older adults lived alone and they always had someone doing most their ADL’s throughout their day. Now that I interviewed C.G. she really changed my perspective of older adults, and I am honestly glad to talk to an older adult about life in general. Overall, I believe that as we age overtime, we can see a whole meaning of life through a different perspective. I also believe that if we do not take care of our bodies when we are younger than we suffer the consequences from health problems as we age overtime. In addition, I believe that as we age we take advantage of every moment or opportunity that we have in order to reflect on it as we age so that we can feel accomplished
