The healthy lifestyle has been a huge part of my life for the past few years. Wellness is also something I strive for but struggle with a tad more. That being said, I do believe there is a difference between “health” and “wellness”. Health has to do with the physical body, being rid of sickness, steady metabolism and within good body fat percent for that person’s age and height. The dictionary defines health as “the state of being free from illness or injury”. (Merriam Webster) Wellness to me means mentally, emotionally and spiritually healthy. For example, if someone is severely depressed, clinically insane or dealing with demons they would not be well in my opinion.

A huge issue facing society today which hinders Americans from being physically healthy is dieting. Most people are under the thought that a “calorie is a calorie”. This is not true at all, the body uses all nutrients in different ways. A smart dieting program used by many professional athletes and certified trainers is dieting by tracking macronutrients. There are three main macronutrients which are proteins, fats and carbohydrates. Each serves a specific purpose to help the body grow. Proteins are mainly used for muscle building and fuel. Fats are for storing nutrients and can act as a shield for our body. Carbohydrates are the body’s main fuel source and people tend to steer away from eating them because they 've read somewhere that they are fattening or unhealthy to consume, more often called a paleo diet.…
