The word “health” does not have a clear universal definition. As learned in class, cultures take “health” and run with it, making a definition that they see fit. As a future nurse, it is a responsibility of mine now to be familiar with a general conceptual meaning of health. Although health is not strictly defined, every healthcare provider should consider forming a loose definition of health based on a health model as to not act completely on ignorance. My definition of health is as follows: health is considered a state of being, whether good or bad, that is ultimately influenced by one’s personal decisions. My definition is based on the transtheoretical health model. According to the article “Transtheoretical Model of Health Behavior Change Applied to Voice Therapy”, the transtheoretical health model “postulates that behavior change is accomplished through a series of stages, rather than a single or sudden event. These five stages of change are precontemplation, contemplation, action, preparation, and maintenance...Different experiences and self-regulatory strategies aid the individual in moving from one stage to the next. Self-efficacy influences the entire course of changing.” (Leer, E. V., Hapner, E. R., & Connor, N. P., 2008) My rational is this: if behavioral change can be accomplished through stages and by implementing different strategies using self-efficacy, health should be able to go through a similar process as health can also be partially influenced by a state of mind much like …show more content…
It may be a difficult adjustment, but it is ultimately worth it when it comes to calculating the costs of herbal medicines versus western medicines and treatments. Besides practicing Chinese health practices, sometimes diet and exercise alone can be the solution to a problem. The idea here is to do actions that can only make a person better and not potentially make a mountain out of a
