Before Steve ever had a thought about changing the world, he was already a brilliant man. Only eighteen years old, Jobs received a position with the Atari company as a technician. Nolan Bushnell, one of Atari’s cofounders, stated that while Steve was there he, “was very often the smartest guy in the room, and he would let people know that.” Simply for sport, Jobs and his best friend from high school, Steve Wozniak, designed what they called a “blue box.” This gadget was able to generate tones at particular frequencies that manipulated the worldwide telephone network. They could make long distance calls for free all over the world. Jobs remarked in an interview from 1995, known as The Lost Interview, that they managed to get the Pope on the …show more content…
Creating an environment that focuses on the product allows employees to flourish. Ignoring workplace customs of politeness, people can produce better products and grow exponentially as individuals and as a team. In The Lost Interview he said, “When you get really good people, they know they’re really good, and you don’t have to baby people’s egos so much.” While the employees are the crucial piece of a company, the people buying the product are, possibly, more impactful. For those people to contribute to the success, there must be a product that is not just superior to competitor’s products, but is the absolute best product that could be created in the current climate. In order to create the best products, Jobs had to demand excellence. Competence was unthinkable, exceptionality was required. Jobs was a great leader and entrepreneur because he was able to manage his employees, design products, run the company, keep track of funds, keep an eye on the future, and stay ahead of the competition, all while controlling many other things.
