Before Steve ever had a thought about changing the world, he was already a brilliant man. Only eighteen years old, Jobs received a position with the Atari company as a technician. Nolan Bushnell, one of Atari’s cofounders, stated that while Steve was there he, “was very often the smartest guy in the room, and he would let people know that.” Simply for sport, Jobs and his best friend from high school, Steve Wozniak, designed what they called a “blue box.” This gadget was able to generate tones at particular frequencies that manipulated the worldwide telephone network. They could make long distance calls for free all over the world. Jobs remarked in an interview from 1995, known as The Lost Interview, that they managed to get the Pope on the other end of the line at one point. Jobs and Wozniak were an imaginative duo, and their creativity didn’t stop with this experiment. In 1976, Wozniak invented the Apple 1. While Wozniak is recognized as the main creator of the Apple 1, Jobs had the vision and foresight to sell it to the public. Without much delay, they founded the Apple Computer Company, and Jobs was essential to the new company’s success. He sold his van for cash and worked the phone endlessly to get funding from investors. They sold the computer for over a year until they released the Apple 2. Because of the Apple 2’s user-friendly design, floppy disc drive, and spreadsheet program, the Apple Computer Company became the pioneer of personal computing for the next decade,…
