My favorite part of lecture Friday was learning about how each name came about, especially learning about how Jacob becomes Israel. It is an interesting story, especially because he was first the bottom of the totem pool but he was able to rise up and fought with and stood toe to toe with an Angel who he first thought was a human.

The Pharaoh decreed in Exodus 1 that all Hebrew first born sons (not daughters) are to break drowned in the river. The Pharaoh refuses, resulting God cursing the land with ten plagues. Before He did so, Moses warn his people to add a bloody symbol to their doors to protect them selves from God’s wraith. Before each of the plagues, Moses gave an offer to the Pharaoh to release the Hebrews to end the plagues,. The Pharaoh regents and freed them.
Moses and the Hebrews and the Israelites left Egypt as they were chased by the Pharaoh’s man. When they were trapped between the army and the sea, Moses parted the sea. This allows his people to cross, but not the Pharaoh’s. This is one treason why he is important Bible figure: he was commanded by God to save them, so he did.
Moses, of course, did other important things, such as receiving the Ten Commandments and then asking for forgiveness for those who broke the Commandments by idolizing a golden calf, return the people to Canaan, and bless people before he died in the end. All of which made him an important
