It is the desire of the Lord to abolish slavery all together. One can only wonder, had slavery not survived past the ratification of the constitution, if the civil war would have ever happened (for that was one of the major causes of the separation of the states). In Mosiah 24:12 it says, "Yea, and in the valley of Alma they poured out their thanks to God because he had been merciful unto them, and eased their burdens, and had delivered them out of bondage; for they were in bondage, and none could deliver them except it were the Lord their God." I would have to say that, though wisdom often comes with age, as the old adage stipulates, age doesn't necessarily bring wisdom. Also as another example, we hear of people like Larry J. Sabato who in his book he presents different amendments “to the nation’s founding document, the proposal of amending the Electoral College, adding more delegates to the House of Representatives and having federal judges up to 15 years of service.” These are perhaps issues that might need improvement and might help the nation.
