Advertisements are with society every single day of their lives. Although some people may say that they never notice it, advertisements are with them from the moment they wake up until they close their eyes at night. Advertising is when a company promotes their product and targets a consumer or a viewer using one or more techniques of ethos, pathos, or logos. Ethos, pathos and logos are important forms of techniques used to persuade a viewer using famous celebrities, emotions, or statistics to catch the viewers’ attention. Advertisements are displayed on TV, radio stations, billboards, motor vehicles and especially on social media. Companies major targets are of course children since they are not capable to apprehend advertisement. Perri Klass’s article “How Advertising Targets Our Children, mentions, “the top four products are fast foods, sugared cereals, sugary drinks and candy” (Par. 10). Commercials like McDonalds, Fruity Pebbles, and starburst are examples of advertisements that capture children’s attention without making them aware of the unhealthiness of the products. Advertisements know that children have a sweet tooth for sweet sugary products which is why these unhealthy companies focus on selling than a child’s health. In the article, It’s the Ads, Stupid: Why TV Leads to Obesity written by Alice Park shows statistics of how advertisements use many junk food commercials that are not healthy for a child’s health. She informs “She mentions, “The average American child sees nearly 8000 commercials on TV for food and beverages and only 165 of these are for nutritious options like fruits and vegetables” (Par. 5). Currently, many children are obese due to commercials that promote these unhealthy foods. For example, McDonalds is a huge company whose main target are children. They market their meals by revealing to kids that every one of their happy meals include a toy. However, children are unaware of how unhealthy and dangerous junk food products are to their body whereas adults know the effect junk food can have to one. Children are much too innocent to understand how consuming unhealthy meals can drastically affect their health and weight but it is also with the help of parents that children can avoid
