Literacy can mean different things to different people, but there is no denying the more common meaning. Jeff Magee, a teacher, said “Literacy is an essential aspect of our everyday lives that is embedded in our activities, social interactions and relationships. It is not only the ability to read and write, but to comprehend.” If you are able to comprehend more, the more successful you can be. Literacy dictates each and everyone’s future for many reasons. If you are able to read, write and comprehend well, you will have far more success in life than someone who cannot do those things as well. Even though all of those are positive impacts, technology, when used constantly can start doing damage to your education life. Students and even parents can easily look past all of the negative things technology can do because we live in such a technological world. It is embedded in us to be up to date with all of the latest video games, computers and phones. Literacy standards are not what they used to be. Calkins and Ehrenworth suggest that in the past “most jobs required low literacy skills, but children who leave school today without strong literacy skills will not find a job” (p. 9). The literacy needed now has gotten a lot harder and you need to be able to comprehend more in this day in age. Technology has been tied with students wanting to leave school early to either make Youtube tutorials, video game cheat videos and so on and so forth. With very little literacy skills needed to work in that industry, people don’t think about what happens when you fail. Because they have poor literacy skills, it is very hard to succeed in a real job because literacy is knowledge, knowledge is power and power is

Something else that many people struggle with is having good people skills, while it is true that some parents will hold their children back one year in their kindergarten years to strengthen their people skills, it does not always help. The world competes for jobs, and only well studied kids come on top to snag the better, more well paying jobs while kids who were not motivated to do any work in school whatsoever end up with low paying jobs. Some teachers do not come to school motivated to actually teach and make their kids learn. Simply stating a lesson and expecting them to understand is a very wrong and incorrect way to teach in a high school workplace. This is where they should be learning. The teachers job, believe it or not, is to help students understand and learn what they will need to know in the future, especially in small public schools, this gives rise to more possibilites to learn when the teacher can communicate with you much easier.…

Teachers’ goals are to help students succeed and pursue their dreams on what they want to do with their lives and phones have blocked minds from doing that. Colleges are way less strict and do not even care if students are on their phones. There are very few teachers who care and will make them put it away, however, most teachers just let it happen because in the end, it is the student’s education and they paid for the class. When I was in high school, students in my class never did their homework and copied from each other and then when they had a test, they would cheat with their phones to look up answers or use calculators. It is a cheat guide to helping students succeed when they can’t get too far in life with just their cell phones.…

Some devices are useful, like computers, but schools should not be constantly worried about getting the latest technology for their students. Cheating is easier when there is more access to websites, but if too much is blocked then doing work can become a hindrance. Technology is used everyday by students and usually in a recreational manner. Switching from recreational use to educational can be difficult. Teachers cannot be trained fast enough in current technology and when they finally are many students find it outdated and boring.…

Also some parents say when they were kids they do not remember having that much homework, but times have changed. Really what they don’t really know is that homework doesn’t actually improve on you on your academic skills and it does not help if there are questions are ones that don’t help them at all, it would help better with like 3 questions that could help the students tremendously. Quality over quantity. According, again, to Linda Kardamis “ When you limit how much homework you give and/or how long the assignments are, then you can expect the students to do quality work on what you do assign.” (“Teach 4 the Heart” 4) To conclude teachers shouldn’t give as much homework then they do now. First, students don’t have enough time to do work AFTER school.…
