The 1986 film, The Mission, uses music to enhance the viewer’s emotions and interpretations of the scenes. The film score by Ennio Morricone is so important to the film that it is the main focus of some of the scenes. The dialogue in this film appears to be lacking. In the excerpt of the movie there is very little dialogue and when there is it’s kept short and to the point. The music fills in the long gaps between conversations. The first music that is heard is a soft guitar melody. It is non-diegetic and it builds up and then just falls out and does not give closure. The music has a tone of sadness to it, which is appropriate seeing as how Carlotta is confessing to her husband that she loves his half brother. The same harmony continues
