Woodrow Wilsons felt that the League of Nations was the only hope for world peace and the only way to prevent another war. Despite his enthusiastic attempts to create the League of Nations, the United States never joined due to their policy of isolationism and refusal to send American men to die for another country. The United States wanted to stay out of foreign affairs however, the League of Nations called for the collective security and that when one nation harassed another, all nations that were in the league would respond on their behalf. Personally, I feel that the Treaty of Versailles was the contributing factor that started it all. Germany had been forced to accept all responsibility for the cause of WWI, they lost a great deal of their land and had to pay retributions to France and they were undoubtedly angry over this treaty. I think WWII was inevitable, and even if the United States had been a part of the League of Nations, WWII would not have been prevented. The League of Nations had already proven themselves to be weak. They had a chance to put an early stop to fascism in responding to Italy's invasion of Ethiopia in which it used machine guns and poison gas against natives with spears. They could have halted oil sales, stopped Italian industry, but the league stood by with mere harmless sanctions. If the United States had joined the League of Nations, it would have been undoubtedly a lot stronger but probably not enough to stop WWII. The U.S. also would not likely have been a very aggressive member of the League of Nations and would not have been likely to push hard for intervention at any of the points that led up to WWII.
As far as creating a utopian society or dream I don’t think that this concept is easy to define. What one person may think is a utopian society or dream, could be considered another person’s dystopia. While
