According to the college board the average cost of college has raised at a ten year historical rate of about 5% per year for decades. During the 2014-2015 year private institution’s tuition increases at a rate of about 3.7% and at public institutions at a rate of about 2.9%. Imagine if something you eat/drink regularly like a McDonald’s cheeseburger or a Starbucks coffee price increased at that same rate of 5%. Would it be worth purchasing? Would you find cheaper alternatives? Would you treat it as a luxury? All of these same emotions go through a person’s mind when making college decisions. These are also thoughts when deciding whether to go to a community college before going to a four year institution or even when deciding whether to pursue higher education as an option.
Total cost of attendance, cost of housing, meal plans, even things like transportation are all taken into consideration when making tough decisions about higher education. Have you ever thought deeply into these costs? A better question is have you ever thought about whose decision it is to decide these cost tuition, what qualifies them to do this? What is there info source? Do they consider the thousands of students that attend the University and their families that are forced to make essential changes to allow said student to attend the school and graduate in 4 to 5 years.
