Hi Keeva and Salvatore,
Thank you for taking the time to point out the concept of reciprocity in business and in politics. I agree with you concerning your point in how reciprocity plays in business and in politics and a good example is the Affordable Care Act Keeva mentioned.
I understand that in business and in politics, reciprocity plays a big role and I agree since business as a definition could be summarized as “giving and receiving” (exchange, reciprocity) to make a profit. Reciprocity must be at the heart of every business. If a company does not start from the principle of “delivering to receive”, it will only build ephemeral relationships, based on advertising promises and not on the true affection that the consumer can have for a

Hi Mitzi, After screening several candidates to replace Ismael, I haven’t found anyone that meets the qualifications for the role as an HR Recruiter. What I would like to propose, is that we distribute the requisitions between two recruiters. Ismael was responsible for recruiting for SHCS – Southeast, which includes New Bedford and Bourne, as well as SHBH, and all clinical positions. The average requisition for SHRI Recruiter, Karyn Paradis, has been in the 40’s for the adult programs.…

    Hi Doug Case Study

Hi Doug, I also found both the formal entry and the psychological entry portions of entering into an organization to be very interesting. A lot takes place during the formal entry, like meeting with consultees, learning about the organization, discovering the needs and desired outcomes of the organization, and working out logistics of the consulting process (Brown, Pryzwansky, & Schulte, 2011). I also like the advice Brown et al. (2011) offer about writing a letter outlining the agreement that the consultant and consultee(s) reach regarding the consultation process, if a contract is not used. This can be used as a reference during the process, and may also help resolve any misunderstanding that occur.…

However, we need to have the approved documentation to close the issue. I recommend that a follow up correspondence with Olha and Allen next week would be reasonable before we can determine whether an extension for target date is needed. Can you please provide a copy of the proposed change?…

In my honest opinion, I find all of Robert Cialdini’s non-rational norms, to be much simpler than I expected, but they are also much more significant than I was expecting as well. I also didn’t realize how often they would all come in to play into everyday life. This concept is very interesting to me, but I can also see how people could be very torn as to if these matters were rational or non-rational. When it comes to reciprocity, I feel the biggest reason this is non-rational is because it just simply isn’t fair. Some people are more capable of doing for others, and for someone to be able to use that as manipulation towards someone less fortunate is morally wrong to me.…

The practice of making charitable donations is prosaic in American society; accordingly, in this mundane culture, benefactors are frequently motivated for reasons other than their own magnanimity. Illustratively, in my community, a local public broadcasting station fundraises and offers a special, refillable coffee vessel in exchange for a certain sum of donation. This is not unusual, in fact, when acts of charity are requested, organizations often incentivize support. Their goal is to create a situation that is more conducive to gathering contributions; thus, an increase of procurement rate occurs. Another reason that acts of benefaction are not selfless is because of the social pressure that is often applied and surrounds charity.…

The book Give and Take written by Adam Grant takes the reader to perspective of the unique differences that distinguishes givers who are taken advantage of by takers and successful givers who are adaptable when reciprocating with these takers. Essentially, givers are best described as people who are generous when lending their assistance to others in need, without asking for any form of reward or benefit in return. On the contrary, takers are individuals who exploit others to further promote their self-interests to get ahead without contributing back to those who’ve assisted them. Although takers can easily manipulate most givers’ considerate and selfless nature for their own personal benefit, givers who acquire the skill to recognize the takers’ selfish motives are easily able to adjust to the takers’ manipulative behaviors by limiting the amount of assistance offered to them. Givers are able to overcome takers’…

One could argue that economic disinterest observed by Marcel Mauss in the Gift and Karl Polanyi in the Great Transformation can ultimately be aligned with Adam Smith’s claim, which is that individual desire to attain more material goods is the natural cause of exchanges between people. In this point of view, Polanyi could be criticized for associating economic self-interest exclusively with market transactions instead of considering the various ways economic self-interest could be displayed in different cultures. Mauss also uses the word “gift” to describe reciprocal exchanges, thus invoking the voluntary and non-economic sense of the word in the Western culture. However, to argue that all human activities have purely economic motivations would…
