CHD is when coronary arteries that supply the heart muscle with oxygen-rich blood become narrowed by a gradual build-up of fatty material within their walls. Heart attack is known to be common cause of death although it is been reported by NICE guidelines (2014) that deaths caused by heart attack has been reduced following or observing rehabilitation therapies which includes advices, cardiac rehabilitation, to prevent secondary heart attack.
Statistics of death rate as a result of CHD is more than 103,000 deaths per year in which about 1 million men and nearly 500,000 women in the UK have had a heart attack as such it is very important to start cardiac rehabilitation from when heart attack patient has been reviewed for discharge to prevent secondary attack (NICE, 2014). Furthermore Myocardial Infarction National Audit Project (MINAP) reported that only 44% of all patients partake in cardiac rehabilitation after an MI and this is below the National Service (National Service Framework for Coronary Heart Disease, 2000).
