Hate for the Same Love As humans, it is inevitable that we evolve and advance as our way of living progresses. Unfortunately, our opinions and beliefs do not always keep up with our social evolution. As humans advance as a society, it is essential that our way of thinking adapts to our way of living.
Gay and lesbian relationships have always been a controversial and sensitive topic. The song and music video “Same Love” by Macklemore examines this disputed issue. Macklemore expresses his acceptance for gay and lesbian couples and wants these individuals to take pride in their sexuality. More importantly, he promotes the acceptance of gay and lesbian individuals and that they should not be discriminated against, but they should be granted basic rights and freedoms. He encourages everyone to speak out about the mistreatment of gay and lesbian people. The music video shows the daily struggles of gay people. It also demonstrates the difficulty of not being accepted by others. This song could be directed towards the gay community, or people who do not accept gay and lesbian individuals. The song is very powerful in its own right. The music video only adds to this effect with its seamless transitions and explicit, thought provoking imagery. The song opens with a simple piano melody.
