Gun control continues to be a controversial issue for many, especially in the wake of many recent, tragic mass shootings in the United States this year alone. With gun control being such a polarizing issue, it is difficult for both sides of this issue to agree to certain terms. With an impactful event like the Columbine shooting of 1999, or the rising rate of lives being taken by gun violence, the issues surrounding gun control continue to grow. Some issues that have created the need for gun control include mass shootings at schools, accidental deaths of children involving a gun, misuse of guns in criminal activities, and deaths by firearm in suicides or crimes of passion. According to the Gun Violence Archive, a nonprofit website that follows gun deaths and injuries, there have been 53,039 incidents in the United States involving a gun. Their research also determined that there were 13,385 deaths involving a gun in the year 2015, which grew significantly compared to the 12,587 deaths in 2014. Some values that are for gun control include one’s desire to ensure their safety in public, being able to protect their family’s lives from gun violence, and lastly their understanding that they have the right to life. Some issues that go against the need for laws regarding gun control include those whose livelihoods depend on hunting animals for food, being unable to protect their family from any harmful threats, taking away one’s constitutional right to exercise the Second…
