He is known for his laid back demeanor and deferment via humor. He didn’t have as much of a chance to voice his opinions as the more heavily attacked candidates. Carson is a 64 year old American born author, politician, and a retired Johns Hopkins neurosurgeon. He was the first ever surgeon to separate conjoined twins heads and was awarded the Presidential Medal of Freedom, presented to him in 2008 by former president George W. Bush. Other than his accomplishments in the medical field he is known for his highly conservative ideals and commentaries, including his Christian beliefs. Although he didn’t stand out in the debate as a winner, his nonverbal communication cues showcased him in bright light. He had open body language even when addressing questions directed at his character. That along with his tall posture his demeanor screamed confidence all around. His verbal cues were a little different, referencing the bible when talking about how he’d change taxes to tithing system which seemed a little too strong of a religious element in the government. After dropping poll ratings in the weeks leading up to the debate Walker needed an edge to gain an advantage in the polls but he didn’t say anything that particularly captivated the audience. The 48 year old Iowan native was a high school dropout who left to join the American Red Cross. Walker maintained good eye contact and appeared confident and prepared for the debate.
