Texas political alignment began as a strong and faithful for the Democratic Party. Through time however the political alignment switched from Democratic, to Republican, to a long lasting Democratic until turning back into the Republican alignment we have today. The particular rime and the economy of Texas was a large part of what cause these changes. To dive deeper into the changes of political alignment we have to understand who was in power at the time both in the national government and state government. In this paper I will expand on the points of: how the Democratic Party was able to gain control of the state government in Texas well into the 1970s, how Texas shifted from being an overwhelmingly Democratic state to being an overwhelmingly…

The Republican party was formed on June 17, 1856. The party was formed to help stop the spread of slavery into western territories, after the passing of the Kansas-Nebraska act in 1854. This act would allow the settlers to decide whether or not their state would be a slave state. The name of the party was created by Horace Greeley in a 1854 new york newspaper article. In this article he said: "We should not care much whether those thus united (against slavery) were designated 'Whig,' 'Free Democrat' or something else; though we think some simple name like 'Republican' would more fitly designate those who had united to restore the Union to its true mission of champion and promulgator of Liberty rather than propagandist of slavery."…

Jeb Bush's campaign outlined to supporters in stark terms the biggest weaknesses of primary challenger Marco Rubio, campaign documents from a donor meeting revealed Thursday. Bush's campaign staff met with top donors in Houston earlier this week to keep them in the fold and delivered a 112-page document detailing how they would win the White House. U.S. News and World Report first reported on the Bush campaign's full game plan Thursday. Bush has been struggling to find his footing in the Republican field he once led, even before his widely-panned performance at Wednesday's Republican debate. Following a modest fundraising haul in the quarter that ended in September, Bush began slashing expenses throughout his campaign -- the most expansive…
Reagan and Roosevelt were both instrumental in changing the very fabric of the United States. According to the Hauenstein Center, “Each man had served as governor of the nation’s largest state. Each entered the White House in a period of great economic crisis. Each brilliantly used the media to enlist public support for his agenda” They strategically used the media in such a way to enlist gain support of the majority of Americans for each of their own political agenda.…
With Nancy Reagan’s encouragement, he entered politics and became a republican. In 1966, he was elected as the 33rd governor of California. Then Reagan went to Washington and ran for president. As a candidate, he redefined the message of the Republican Party to get the votes of ordinary Americans. In 1980, he was elected as the 40th president of the United States.…
There were only 4 times in the 20th century of US presidential election that incumbent loses. The most recent election among them is a 1992 Presidential Election where George H.W. Bush loses to Bill Clinton. In the beginning of the election, not many people thought that Bush was going to lose. However, national priorities were shifting with the rising new generation, the baby boomers. The Domestic economic was in chaos with unemployment rate that is highest in nine years.…
My last name is Hansen so I had to write about the Republican Party. My first impression of the website is that it’s. If anyone was searching they could find the information fairly easily. An example of this is I simply looked up “Donald Trump” and got a total of 11 results.…
Since his service in office, Ronald Reagan has been known to be one of the few presidents that is still glorified today. According to the ABC News Poll, taken in February 16-20, 2000, out of 1,012 adults Reagan was ranked fifth. He was ranked above George Washington and below Franklin D. Roosevelt. As a president I think some of his best leadership characteristics shown while in office were his public persuasion, moral authority, and economic management. Even with his good approval ratings though, there were people who opposed the Reagan era and might ask is President Reagan’s ranking of 5th out of 42 a justified ranking?…
Party Identification I am to believe that I am part of the Republican Party, as being raised in a republican based family. Just as I was, many other people are usually taught on their views based upon their parent’s views on political events. In the family I was raised in we didn’t really keep close eyes on politics and who we think should be the right person to do the job. They always just said that, “one vote can’t make much of a difference, especially when I don’t like who is running”.…
Partisan divide in the United States has grown over the past few decades, and has reached a point that the views of the average office holder on either side is no longer appealing to many members of society, as their political ideology is not consistently extreme. However, if the Republican Party were to make their policies more moderate when it comes to government aid to the poor, unauthorized immigrants, and energy priority they could potentially gain new followers. When it comes to government aid to the poor the partisan line is very divided, but there are a few policies the Republican Party could suggest to form a more moderate platform. One of the first would be to suggest tightening regulation on who qualifies for the aid, and setting…
The founding fathers of the United States never intended for the nation to be dominated by two political parties. However, over the years, the nation has become a modern two-party system, where the Republican and Democratic parties have dominated American politics. Initially, the views and issues of the Republican Party was originally the same views shared by the early democratic party. The early Democratic Party possessed conservative ideologies which opposed expansion of federal power, supported states’ rights and supported discriminatory Black codes. While the Republican Party were quite liberal and supported the expansion of federal power, civil rights movement and desegregation of schools.…
