Genetic engineering is known for it 's potential of saving lives in situations doctors have no control over and with recent developments in has made its way toward saving children before birth. It also allows people a cost effective way to be able to help increase a child 's circumstances at birth while they are still an embryo but at what cost. Just like any new technological breakthrough there are people who are taking advantage of this new technology that should require the government to limit its potential uses and implications. For those who don’t know what genetic engineering is and how it works here is some background information. There are several forms of genetic testing and we will focus on two, molecular and chromosomal genetic tests, which test for genetic mutations likewise. Molecular genetic tests allow doctors to see if the patient 's DNA has a mutation that can lead to a genetic disease such as Tay-Sachs caused by a mutation in the DNA code. Chromosomal tests allow doctors to look at the chromosomes to determine if there is an anomaly or mutation such as an extra chromosome that will lead to genetic diseases like Down Syndrome caused by containing an extra chromosome. Through new developments in the genetic make up in embryos scientists discovered the process of In-Vitro Fertilization (IVF), a process where we can now choose which embryos with desired traits to fertilize and not prone genetic mutations. In addition, doctors can prevent genetic diseases…
